6 Months, 5,000 hits

I started this blog in June of this year.  Back in late September I started to wonder if I could hit 5,000 hits on this site by December 1.  That would have been 6 months of life for my little bloggie-poo, and seemed like a reasonable goal.  Well, it looks like I missed by a bit.  It’s the last day of November and I’m at 4,130 or something.

At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter; I don’t generally write here for anyone but me, but I certainly don’t mind people reading it.  It’s just a number, and a relatively small one at that as far as successful blogs go.  It is nice to know that people find your writing interesting enough to visit and visit more than once, and this past week I’ve been averaging 65 hits a day, which is pretty cool.     I don’t have any specific topic that’s going to bring in people of a specific ilk, and I don’t have alot of consistency to my writing style or even frequency.

I do experiment a bit with titles just because I’m curious as to what brings people in (btw…to this day my most often hit posts are the couple I wrote about Rockstar: Supernova and how lame the show was…lol), and sometimes it’s surprising.  I thought my “Porno for Boarders”  and “Virgin Poker” titles would net me a bazillion google hits, but neither did all that well.  I do get a lot of searches from frustrated online poker players using keywords such as “doom switch”, “donkey”, and “poker stars sucks”, and also a lot on “CounterPath”.

Some people have sent me traffic too; Duane sends me a pile of visits every day, and Jeff Pulver gave me a huge spike by referencing me a couple months ago.  My friends at FutureLooks send a few too, but I think that’s mainly my sexy friend “Rosie” forgetting my site address and checking it out ;).  Or maybe her boyfriend…yikes.  I’ve never recieved a single hit from either Wil Wheaton or Dr. Pauly,  which slightly surprises me considering how often I quote them both and send referrals to them.  Mind you, they are both very big and I’m very small.

Anyways, there’s no real point to this post other than to fill space.  🙂

So if I keep leaving and coming back to your blog…we might be able to get you up to 5000 hits by the end of the day ;-). Since you wrote this it’s already been hit 11 times.

heh that would be cool if it works…but I was counting daily unique visitors, so you’d have to do it from different computers. 😉

I hope you didn’t get 5000 hits because:

This term doesn’t belong in your vocabulary unless you are a server administrator. Hits have nothing to do with traffic analysis. A hit is a request made on a server for a file. If you have dozens of small banners on each page, one pageview could result in dozens on hits. For purposes of measuring traffic, hits should be forgotten.

So anyone ripping your artwork or graphics, would be giving you at “HIT”.
